Are you in the military? Are you retired military? Have you ever thought about how difficult it is to be in the military? Shortly after the reformation began, people started asking Luther questions about military service. His answer came in the form of a writing entitled "Whether soldiers too can be saved?" We will read this together and discuss it starting Sunday at 9 am during the adult Christian education hour at Abiding Savior Church. See you then! The Lord's joy and peace
Join us for a potluck lunch on January 27, 2019 after the service at 10:00.
What a wonderful day for Christmas for kids!
Greetings to all: Well, the children are back in school, the vacations for most are over, and it is back to the routine of everyday life. Sometimes we may wonder, “Is this all there is to life?” The answer is “NO”. Jesus said, “I have come that they (his followers) may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10). The full life is found in Christ Jesus and his amazing promises and help. Last Sunday at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church I continued my sermon series entitled “Character Studies of the Old Testament.” We had the opportunity hear about Samson and his reckless lifestyle, but also his peace with God through faith. If you missed it, please find a printed copy of the sermon attached. This Sunday I will continue with my sermon series, part 3, and a character study of another Old Testament biblical character, Josiah. Sunday, September 16: Josiah When we talk about the kings of God’s people in the Old Testament, the most famous were probably the first three: Saul, David, and Solomon. Josiah was the 16th king of Judah who became king when he was just eight years old. But in 2 Kings 23:25, we read this amazing commentary on the life of Josiah: “Neither before nor after Josiah was there a king like him who turned to the Lord as he did.” This is a man we need to know more about. Hope to see you then. Rejoice in the Lord always! Pastor Fred Piepenbrink
Greetings to all: Hope your week is going well. I had the opportunity to speak to the members and guests of Abiding Savior last Sunday on the topic “Why So Few?” This Sunday, September 9, I wish to start a sermon series on “A Character Study of the Old Testament. The most logical place to start this study is with Abraham. Abraham, after all, has been called the “father of all believers.” So Abraham is your and my spiritual father, and after this study we will all understand why. Abraham was tested by God in a most severe way. But Abraham showed how far faith can go when trust in God comes first. Hope to see you then. Rejoice in the Lord always! Pastor Fred Piepenbrink
Have you ever been accused of having a “blind faith?” Sometimes that happens. From time to time Christians are accused of having a “blind faith.” Worship with us this Sunday at Abiding Savior and become “clear-eyed.” See why our God-given faith is never blind. Become reaffirmed in what God has led you to see very clearly and focus on. Looking forward to seeing you at 10:00 am this Sunday. Pastor Jon
Is it a drudgery? An obligation? Or is it a joy to give the person you love a hug and tell them that you love them? Obviously, if you love someone, you love to show that love. That’s right in line with what David said in Psalm 122, “I rejoiced with those who said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the LORD.’” People who love the LORD love to show that love. One of the ways love for the LORD is expressed is in public worship. You are invited to join us in expressing love for the LORD in the 10:00 AM worship service at Abiding Savior this Sunday. In Jesus’ love, Pastor Jon
Saturday painting party with Renee, Jon, Myrna, Dennis, Dorene, and Lori was quite the success. Still a long way to go but it's downhill from here!
Are you looking for more contentment and a greater sense of fulfillment in your life? Did you know Daniel’s trip to the lions’ den unlocks for us the secret toward greater contentment and fulfillment in our lives today? Come to worship at Abiding Savior tomorrow. You’ll be glad you did. Daniel will teach you three important ways that will bring greater contentment and a deeper sense of fulfillment in your life. I look forward to sharing the message God has prepared for your heart and life. I also look forward to welcoming you at our 10 am worship service tomorrow. Jesus loves you! Pastor Jon
Did you know your presence at worship is a source of encouragement for fellow Christians? That’s what the Bible tells us. Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another-and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24,25 You are invited to encourage us by joining us in Abiding Savior’s 10:00 am worship tomorrow. God bless you! Pastor Jon
